Car buyers are often stuck between whether to purchase a new vehicle with a higher price tag or a used vehicle with an unknown history but lower price tag. Ford offers an easy solution with its Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) program. By buying a Ford-certified vehicle, buyers can save on the purchase price but get a vehicle that has been thoroughly inspected by Ford-certified mechanics and that comes with extended warranty protection against future issues.
Ford CPO Program
Drivers could buy a used vehicle from anybody anywhere, but buying a vehicle that has gone through the Ford CPO program is akin to buying a cheaper new car. A Ford CPO vehicle has undergone a 172-point inspection, offers a comprehensive limited warranty, provides 24/7 Roadside Assistance, and more.
172-Point Inspection
Every vehicle--sedan, SUV, and truck--that wants to become Ford-certified needs to pass a 172-point inspection. This comprehensive inspection covers the gambit to ensure that there are no mechanical insufficiencies present on the vehicle. First, Ford checks the vehicle history, including VIN inspection and Carfax vehicle history report. Next comes the road test, where the car is driven and inspected to ensure all systems are working properly.
After that, technicians inspect the vehicle's exterior and interior, checking for evidence of damage and ensuring everything works as it should. Vehicle diagnostics are ran, and the underhood area is checked as well. Hybrid/electric vehicles have their specific batteries and systems checked before technicians examine the vehicle's underbody, including the frame, tire tread depth, exhaust system, brakes, and more. Finally, convenience checks are completed to ensure that the owner's guide, keys, and remote controls are all present.
Comprehensive Limited Warranty
After passing the 172-point inspection, the next step on a vehicle's journey to becoming a Ford CPO car is that it is given 12-month or 20,000 kilometres comprehensive limited warranty coverage. Over 1,000 components are covered under this warranty, including the engine, transmission, steering components, brakes, electrical system, air conditioning and heating, front and rear suspension, safety systems, and more.
24/7 Roadside Assistance
In addition to the limited warranty, Ford also provides 24-Hour Roadside Assistance every day of the year across Canada and the continental U.S. Services include flat tire change, battery jump starts, towing assistance, lockout assistance, out-of-fuel assistance, and more. Rental Car Reimbursement is also available, where drivers are reimbursed the cost of a rental car is the vehicle is inoperative and must be kept overnight.
Carfax Vehicle History Report
Every vehicle in the Ford CPO Program has a Carfax Vehicle History Report ran on it to identify any issues that do not meet Ford's high standards. Areas checked include flood vehicles, fire damage, frame damage, salvage vehicles, branded title, odometer issues, accident history, and vehicle title history.
Ford CPO Program
To become Ford-certified, a vehicle must be less than six years old and have less than 120,000 kilometres on the odometer. Along with the multi-point inspection, Ford ensures that all its CPO vehicles are in great working order before offering them for sale. And with the additional warranty coverage, Ford stands behind its products and CPO program.
