The Reasons Behind Using Genuine OEM Ford Parts
The Reasons Behind Using Genuine OEM Ford Parts
Posted on August 10, 2021
Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) parts are the parts and accessories that come on a vehicle. This includes everything from tires to transmissions to taillights. There are two reasons that drivers would be looking at OEM parts. The first is because they want to customise their vehicle into something that better fits their needs or matches their personality. The second reason is when repairs are needed due to normal wear and tear or unexpected issues.
However, because of price or time constraints or other reasons, drivers might turn to aftermarket parts to repair or customise their vehicles. Instead of choosing a Ford service centre and OEM Ford parts, they choose a non-authorized dealer and use aftermarket parts. However, there are several things that drivers should keep in mind before doing this.
The Downside of Using Aftermarket Parts
While they might save drivers some money up front, aftermarket parts can actually cost more money in the long run. One way that this occurs is because using aftermarket parts on a particular part or system to modify it could result in the vehicle's warranty being voided on that specific part or system.
A vehicle's entire warranty will never be voided because of modifications. However, if an aftermarket part is used on a particular part or system and subsequently damages it, warranty work on that area might be denied. warranty work on a particular part or system damaged by a modification or use of an aftermarket part may be denied.
For example, if a driver adds a turbocharger to their vehicle, it might put out too much power for the transmission, causing it to fail. If this occurs, warranty coverage on that transmission repair could be denied because it was caused by an aftermarket part.
However, if the driver had used an OEM part and had it installed by a Ford service centre, any necessary repairs would still be covered under the warranty.
Using OEM Parts
This denial of warranty coverage is one of the main reasons that it is advisable to replace worn-down or broken parts with OEM parts. Another reason to use OEM parts is that they are the specific parts that the car was built with, and the vehicle was made to run with that part. No aftermarket part will match its performance.
The same reasons hold true for accessories that drivers want to add to their vehicles. It is great to modify a car to meet your needs, but such changes should be done at an authorized Ford service centre with OEM Ford parts to ensure that everything fits together and works the way that it should.
OEM vs Aftermarket Parts
OEM parts should be used where it matters, such as under the hood and on all important systems. Ford vehicles are built tough, but they will need wear-and-tear items now and then, such as brake pads, rotors, fluids, belts, windshield wipers, and more. Drivers do not want to cause issues to their vehicles just to save a few dollars. Use a Ford service centre and OEM Ford parts to conduct repairs on a vehicle, and enjoy stress-free driving for years to come.
